BBO Alert on Firefox OSX stopped updating #11
Comments
6.6.1.7 is very old. The current BBOalert version in the Firefox repository
is 8.0.3
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bboalert/versions/
The simplest solution : remove 6.6.1.7 and install the current release.
I hope that Firefox under MacOS uses the same repository. Personally I have
no experience with Mac PC's.
Note : Installation of BBOalert under Firefox requires supplementary
browser setup to enable clipboard operations. (see the project page on
Github)

Hello!
First, thank you for this wonderful plugin for BBO. My partner and I play a tweaked version of the Schenken club system and it has saved us from a lot of typing!
Second, thanks for responding so quickly.
After a little checking, I figured out the problem was on my end. Here’s what I found.
On my Mac, I run a network connection tool called “Little Snitch” which can let the user create rules for enabling/disabling network calls at the OS level. It is quite powerful. FYI (https://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html <https://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html>)
When I started using BBO on Firefox I noticed it was making *a lot* of network connections to ad sites and other unknown (by me) IP4 and IP6 addresses. I gradually built a series of blocking rules to allow only the minimum connections to let BBO work. I disabled the IP6 addresses globally and locations like 1e100.net <http://1e100.net/> and anything from google it didn’t need to work. All was well. Then I added BBOAlert, still no problem. When I just recently noticed my version was way behind, I updated to the 803 version and it broke BBOAlert. Apparently, starting with 701, the plugin was trying to access locations I had previously blocked. After some testing I found the locations that Firefox and BBOAlert need to work and reenabled only those sites. 803 is loading now! Voila!
I had to add the first 3 sites listed with green dots from the screen shot from Little Snitch below. You can see all the sites that are blocked. Where it says bazillions blocked it is a huge IP6 block of addresses. The block of IP6 addresses I had to renable (unchecked) is 2607:f8b0:4002::-2607:f8b0:4002:ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff if you are curious.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Stanmaz,
BBOalert is acting up again. The old notes are below. I just updated Firefox to the latest version (114.0.1) and it stopped working. It worked fine last week. All the records are in there. Any ideas where I can look? Or how I can help you troubleshoot?
Thanks,
Mike

I've been using BBOAlert on Firefox under Mac OS X for a while I and just noticed the BBOAlert version is at 6.6.1.7. It seems to work OK, but no updates can be found in the add-ons manager. I see that the current version is over 8.0. Any ideas on how I can update this? If I could, would it work?
