CSS Images 4 was last published to /TR in April 2017 and the list of changes since then is extensive. It is long overdue for republication.

  1. Is the list of changes up-to-date?
  2. Are there must-have, blocking issues that absolutely must be edited into the spec before republication?
  3. Any other blockers I might be unaware of?

I suspect the answers to these questions are no, yes, and yes. But it'd require doing triage to say which ones specifically. :) (This is why I didn't tackle it in December, this and Selectors 4 require some serious prep work before publication.)

Thanks! There are currently 9 issues tagged "needs edits" and the History shows only two edits since I updated the changes section in November.

Edit: changes once more up to date

Given that we this week we cleared for pre-CR shipping the gradient use of <color-interpolation-method> used in Images 4, it is particularly important that the /TR version is less than 5 years old and actually includes that.

So, given the changes section is up to date, lets actually publish the thing please?

The CSS Working Group just discussed overdue republications.

The full IRC log of that discussion <TabAtkins> Topic: overdue republications
<TabAtkins> github: https://github.com//issues/7043
<TabAtkins> chris: We just resolved to ship something in Images 4 and the spec hasn't been updated in 5 years, come one
<TabAtkins> TabAtkins: Chris, you're married to one of the editors
<TabAtkins> fantasai: Need to evaluate the changes list, which I can do and we can revisit next week?
<TabAtkins> chris: I've updated the changes list
<TabAtkins> fantasai: Okay I'll review. I'm okay with provisional resolution to repub.
<TabAtkins> Rossen_: Let's do it next week when there's been review. Taking the resolution isn't hard.

The CSS Working Group just discussed republishing Images 4, and agreed to the following:

  • RESOLVED: Publish new WD of Images 4

<TabAtkins> fantasai: I haven't had time to review, but I'm happy to publish for now and have any trouble brought up later

@tabatkins @fantasai @LeaVerou on the call we didn't assign anyone to actually publish it. Its a WD so the automatic system can be used.

@svgeesus Changes section is not up to date, so I think it needs a closer audit before publishing.

Audit completed, blocked on publication tooling. :)

(L3 and L4 are in need of an editorial re-sync, but that doesn't block publication.)
