I assume we're only talking about e297170 and 72d6a25 here? Main problem with these enhancement is, that you're influencing the runtime by annotations only. This is nothing we can do in this way. Anything that influences the runtime has to be done using configuration, annotations are always an add-on only, because you may not control the types you're going to serialize.

And, by the way, the functionality of 72d6a25 was already provided by Kohsuke with XSTR-726 (http://x-stream.github.io/jira/726/) and integrated in XStream 1.4.5 by providing the XStream.aliasType functionality along with the XStreamAliasType annotation.
