About new code

New code is code that you've recently added or modified. To ensure you focus your efforts on the right lines of code, SonarQube will highlight technical debt (issues, code coverage, etc) in the new code.
In pull requests, all code changes are considered new code. For branch and IDE, the new code definition setting tells SonarQube which part of the code is considered new.
Not all issues are assigned to new code. SonarQube use an algorithm to determine whether an issue is new or existed previously. See Issue identification mechanisms to learn how new issues are calculated.
Hint: If you cannot find an issue under 'New code', also look under 'Overall code' to see if it is listed there.
