You can install the mod in several ways:

  • Download the .zip or .tar.gz file, uncompress, and move the resulting mt-firearms-master directory to one of the directories Minetest looks for mods (see below).
  • Clone the repository using git.

In any case, there's no need to rename the resulting directory (it's actually a modpack).

The directories Minetest looks for mods are as follows:

On a RUN_IN_PLACE build (including Windows):

  • <minetestdir>/mods
  • <minetestdir>/games/<gamename>/mods
  • <minetestdir>/mods
  • <minetestdir>/worlds/<worldname>/worldmods
  • <minetestdir>/worlds/<worldname>/game/mods

On a system-wide install:

  • ~/.minetest/mods
  • ~/.minetest/games/<gamename>/mods
  • ~/.minetest/mods
  • ~/.minetest/worlds/<worldname>/worldmods
  • ~/.minetest/worlds/<worldname>/game/mods
