Push notification without Google Cloud Messaging
Please do not translate this page.
It is possible to receive push notifications without Google Cloud Messaging/Google Play Services installed, using microG Project. Everything is thoroughly explained on their wiki, but basically you'll need:
- a Google-free Android 4.0+ device with signature spoofing patch
- microG Services Core, microG Store (FakeStore release) and optional microG Services Framework Proxy (needed for older aplications): https://microg.org/download.html
- Kontalk (Google Play version): https://github.com/kontalk/androidclient/releases
After you install, reboot and proceed to microG settings. Tap on Self-Check to see if your system is correctly set up to use microG. If everything is okay, enable Google Cloud Messaging and set interval for checking. On Android 6 you may have to allow permissions for signature faking to FakeStore.
If you are not using a patched custom ROM, you can enable signature faking using FakeGApps module for Xposed. Again, everything is explained on microG wiki, but basically you'll additionally need:
- Xposed Framework for your device: http://repo.xposed.info/
- FakeGApps Xposed module: https://github.com/thermatk/FakeGApps/releases
Everything is explained on FakeGApps main page, but in case you need another tutorial, IzzyOnDroid has a more detailed procedure here: https://android.izzysoft.de/articles/named/android-without-google-5a.
NOTE: Using BlankStore is not recommended because its development was stopped.
