For compatibility with many Unix-based programming packages, Windows computers need installation of a GNU C Compiler (GCC) package.

Go here to download and install the latest version of TDM-GCC, a popular GCC package.

Be sure to select an installer appropriate for your Windows machine's processor (32-bit / 64-bit).

After installation completes, open a new Windows command-line terminal window, and type the following command: where gcc. Verify that the results include to a gcc.exe file under the TDM-GCC installation folder structure.
