Section 4 Plexiglass Preprocessing

Some of the plexiglass parts only require gluing as a preprocess and some require a sealing solution to be applied. The glue is on the drawer and the Lidar Box.

Attention : Plexiglass glue is different than standard glue. The glue we used is shown below:

Glueing

Lidar Box

Instructions

For this step you will need the following parts:

Part Name How Many
Short Wall 2
Long Wall 2
LidarBox Bottom Piece 1
LidarBox Top Piece 1

Reminder : Apply glue to the in contact inside corners as well.

Attention : This process is not straightforward, because this is an interlocking box all parts have to go together. Which is not possible without connecting short and long walls together. Thus, things could get messy.

Suggestion : First apply a very small amount of glue to the short-long walls but without waiting for glue to dry of put all the parts together and then apply glue to all interlocking sections.

The parts are symmetrical here thus no concern of "wrong" side. The required parts are given below:

Below the supplement animation can be found.

Drawer

Instructions Drawer is an all plexiglass small assembly of SMB. For this step you will need the following parts:
Part Name How Many
Side Wall 2
Front Wall 1
Back Wall 1
Bottom Wall 1

Attention : VERY IMPORTANT the front wall of the drawer IS NOT symmetrical. If you glue it the wrong way you have to re-laser cut it.

Below you can see the correct orientation of the front wall.

Fig 4. Drawer Front Wall Correct Way

Attention : The Side walls can be inserted only in one configuration yet make sure that how you are going to insert it.

Attention : The Drawer base is not symmetrical. If you glue it the wrong way Whole drawer will be thrashed. The correct way can be seen in the picture below.

Fig 5. Drawer Base Correct Way

Suggestion : This is a very hard assembly to glue due to being an interlocking box. Again suggestion is to apply a small amount of glue to the surfaces you think you won't be able to reach after you put the drawer together. Then, put the drawer together and afterward apply the glue truly. Don't peel off the gelatin on the front wall yet, you can use it to mark the correct side. Do all this gluing for the drawer at the desk where you can access do an edge so that aligning would be easier.

Below you find the required parts for the drawer.

and the supplementary animation is as follows:

Another step to follow for the drawer is the drawer lock assembly at this step. The orientation of the lock is very important to be functional. Below an image is added to show the orientation

Sealing

Instructions The sealing that going to be applied here will be exposed to outside weather and mainly to outside plexiglass walls and drawer. The Sealing Used is shown below:

Fig 11. Outside Sealing

Although the sealing that is used the same, for better corner coverage some sealing sections are actually being cut longer than it should and then the "hard part" is cut away. An example of this is shown below:

Fig 12. Hard Part Cut Example

Very Important : To enhance the sealing effect inside this sealing, a round EPDM 5mm sealing should be inserted for the sides where the top aluminum plate is in contact. This is not shown in the manual but implemented on the SMBs.

Front Plexiglass wall sealing position and dimension is shown below:

Fig 13. Front Plexiglass wall Sealing

Back Plexiglass wall sealing position and dimension is shown below

Fig 14. Back Plexiglass wall Sealing

Left Side Plexiglass wall and Right Side Plexiglass wall sealing position and dimension is shown below. Remember that there are 2 side walls in total. The top sealings on these side walls are hard cut.

Fig 15. Side Plexiglass wall Sealing

Drawer front wall sealing position and dimension is shown below. This part has a "sealing rectangle" and this rectangle consists of 2x long sealing and 2x short sealing dimensions are as shown. And the short parts are hard cut.
